Overview

The Group Exercise Manager is responsible for overseeing operations, fitness programming, and staff supervision at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center during scheduled hours. The role includes directing student employees, ensuring policy compliance, training staff, maintaining safety standards, and delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities
  1. Oversee LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center group exercise programming during operational hours, ensuring facility cleanliness, high customer service, and effective operations.
  2. Assist in the oversight of a Group Exercise Instructor student employee team, including interviewing, training, developing, scheduling, and evaluating.
  3. Maintain and enforce risk management procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with university standards.
  4. Document and report incidents and injuries at the facility.
  5. Complete day‑to‑day operational tasks to ensure seamless group exercise programming, including teaching classes, leading fitness workshops, and promoting special events.
  6. Assist with maintenance of studio space and equipment, including regular cleaning.
  7. Frequently oversee operations or events during evenings, nights, or weekends.
  8. Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
  9. Perform additional tasks assigned by the Fitness Coordinator to support campus recreation facilities.
  10. Collaborate effectively as a team member, embracing and supporting Liberty University’s mission.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Qualifications and Credentials
  • Current Group Fitness Certification (ACE, ACSM, or AFAA).
  • Experience developing and implementing group exercise programming.

  • Availability for varied shifts, including weekends, early morning, afternoon, and late night.
  • Capability to work during school breaks, including summer and winter break.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty group fitness certification.

  • Experience in a recreation and fitness environment.
  • Desire to pursue a career in recreation management.

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Frequent travel to local and campus locations.
  • Sitting for extended periods to perform desk work or typing.
  • Regular hearing and speaking for oral communication.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and stair climbing within the building.
  • Capacity to handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop as needed.
  • Regular lifting of 45 pounds or less.
Working Conditions

The role alternates between a climate‑controlled office setting and fitness studios, both well lit with moderate noise levels.
