Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging classes in a welcoming, safe setting. The role emphasizes inclusivity, health, and community building among members with diverse fitness levels.

Qualified candidates hold an accredited certification, have at least one year of group exercise experience, and can tailor sessions to individual needs. The position offers hourly compensation and a supportive team environment within the YMCA system.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in Group Exercise setting.
• NCCA accredited certification (ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA, etc.).
• Current certification required for teaching a specific group format (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Body Pump, Body Combat).
• Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
• Understanding of marketing/special events.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, safe, and educational group classes.
• Answer questions from participants to help them achieve goals.
• Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and training.
• Build authentic relationships with members and help connect them to the YMCA.
• Adjust classes to accommodate varied abilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrate participant achievements and progress.
• Keep attendance records using MotionVibe.
• Follow YMCA policies; respond to emergencies.
• Resolve member issues professionally and in line with YMCA values.
