Job summary

The Farmington Family YMCA seeks a Group Exercise Instructor to lead energizing classes in a safe, inclusive environment that welcomes people of all fitness levels. Elite group workouts emphasize strength, balance, and wellness aligned with the YMCA mission.

Required certifications include CPR, First Aid, AED, and a national group fitness certification; completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles within 60 days of hire. Prior group wellness teaching is preferred.

Qualifications

• Certifications required: CPR, First Aid, AED and a national PT certification.
• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe group classes to accomplish YMCA mission and goals.
• Answer questions within scope of knowledge from participants.
• Maintain knowledge of wellness trends to support members.
• Adjust approach to accommodate all participants' abilities and health.
• Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

General Function

The Group Ex Instructor will be responsible for instructing group training classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.

Elite Group Exercise is a group-training program that delivers the best in fitness workouts - Strength training, Stability training, and Balance training.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• Required certifications: Area of Expertise, CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NETA, NPTI, NSCA) in personal training
• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred, not required
• Proven knowledge of exercise science, movement coaching, and movement competency
• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed, to accomplish YMCA mission and goals
• Asks and answers questions within their scope of knowledge from participants and members
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture
• Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
