Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit’s Farmington Family YMCA is seeking a qualified Group Exercise Instructor to lead energizing, inclusive classes in a safe environment for all fitness levels. This role emphasizes safety, education, and positive motivation for participants.

Responsibilities include answering questions, staying current on wellness trends, and adapting sessions to individual needs under supervision. Flexible scheduling and community focus are core aspects of the position.

Qualifications

• Required certifications: Area of Expertise, CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NETA, NPTI, NSCA) in personal training
• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred
• Proven knowledge of exercise science, movement coaching, and movement competency
• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed, to accomplish YMCA mission and goals
• Asks and answers questions within their scope of knowledge from participants and members
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture
• Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor

General Function

The Group Ex Instructor will be responsible for instructing group training classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.

Elite Group Exercise is a group-training program that delivers the best in fitness workouts - Strength training, Stability training, and Balance training.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
