Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Virginia is hiring a full-time Groundsperson to perform vegetation management duties and operate ground-based equipment. You will clear debris, feed brush into woodchippers, load and unload materials, and support truck and equipment maintenance.

The role requires a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), flexibility for overtime, and the ability to pass background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Always follow and help enforce safe practice and rules.
• Works from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gasoline-powered equipment to cut brush and trees.
• Define staging areas.
• Setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper.
• Loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris
• Operating various trucks and equipment as assigned.
• Perform basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment; keep trucks and other assigned equipment in neat and orderly fashion; report the need for major repairs to truck and equipment.
• Tying knots, rope breaks, and speed lines according to industry standard.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
• Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.
