Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Newport, MI is seeking a full-time Groundsperson to perform vegetation management tasks and operate ground-based equipment. Duties include clearing debris, setting up staging areas, loading materials, and maintaining trucks and tools, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

The role requires a high school diploma (preferred), a valid driver's license, and flexibility for overtime or weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Works from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gasoline-powered equipment to cut brush and trees.
• Define staging areas; setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper; loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris.
• Operate various trucks and equipment as assigned; perform basic maintenance on trucks and equipment.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards; flag traffic to protect people from harm.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies; may require weekends.

Education

• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Position requires employee to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.
