Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Jamestown, TN is hiring a Groundsperson for a full-time position supporting vegetation management activities. You will work from the ground, clear debris with assorted saws and pruners, define staging areas, and handle material/setup for crews in storm restoration scenarios.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading, operating trucks/equipment, basic maintenance, and ensuring safety for workers and the public. A valid driver’s license is required; CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using saws and pruners.
• Define staging areas and set up/break down materials, tools, and equipment.
• Feed brush into woodchipper and load/unload trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris.
• Operate trucks and equipment; perform basic maintenance and report major repairs.
• Safeguard employees and the public; flag traffic when necessary.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.
• May be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Description

• Works from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gasoline-powered equipment to cut brush and trees.
• Define staging areas.
• Setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper.
• Loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris
• Operating various trucks and equipment as assigned.
• Perform basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment; keep trucks and other assigned equipment in neat and orderly fashion; report the need for major repairs to truck and equipment.
• Tying knots, rope breaks, and speed lines according to industry standard.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
• Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Position requires employee to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.
