Job summary

Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Company is seeking dedicated grounds crew members to support climbers and crew leaders in daily tree care tasks. You will perform ground duties, assist with pruning and rigging, and help with equipment operation on a tri-state area job site.

Applicants should have some tree-care exposure, a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to learn. Compensation ranges from $18 to $25 per hour, with benefits including health, dental, 401K, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Grounds crew experience or exposure to general tree work.
• Ability to perform pruning from ground and assist climbers.
• Familiar with safe operation of common tree-care equipment.
• Knowledge of tree and shrub species is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform ground duties in support of job assignments as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in pruning, take-downs, and installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment and participate in safety briefings.
• Perform proper felling, limbing and bucking with a chainsaw.
• Prune from ground with hand tools and pole saws; apply rigging knots.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Set up and clean up job sites as required.

Basic Function

Grounds people serve a pivotal role on tree care crews, with the primary responsibility of assisting the climbers and crew leader in the performance of all general tree work services.

Responsibilities

• Perform all required ground duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in the performance of specialized pruning and take-downs, installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform proper felling, limbing and bucking techniques with a chainsaw.
• Perform pruning from the ground with hand tools and pole saws, application of approved rigging techniques and knowledge of standard knots.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Perform ground duties such as job site set up and clean up as required.

• Previous industry experience is desired.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques including large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to operate chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder and log mover.
• Knowledge of industry standard rigging techniques and knots
• Knowledge of native and introduced tree and shrub species and characteristics of each species is desired.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and occasionally 80-100lbs with assistance
• Valid Driver's License and CDL
• Bi-lingual is a plus
