Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Groundskeeper Technician will ensure all outdoor areas are well‑maintained, clean and attractive to all employees, students, and visitors to campus. This position is responsible for outdoor space maintenance during all seasons, such as mowing, trimming, landscaping, and clearing snow and ice, as well as assisting the facilities team with non‑skilled tasks that support campus operations and events.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform regular grounds and landscaping maintenance such as mowing lawns, string trimming, mulching, pruning, trimming and caring for plantings at campus locations in Kokomo, Logansport, and Peru. Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal, salting sidewalks, and snow shoveling. Remove trash and debris by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, sidewalks, parking lots and entrances to the campus. Provide routine maintenance of all lawn care equipment and snow removal equipment. Operate commercial lawn mowers, trimmers, snowblowers, and other power equipment needed to maintain the facility grounds. Performs maintenance to buildings such as painting, power washing, window cleaning, sweeping, etc. May assist the facilities team with general fleet vehicle maintenance and scheduling mechanical service when appropriate Assist with the delivery of supplies, materials, parcels and equipment throughout the service area. Prepare, set up, and dismantle furniture and equipment as needed for campus events, meetings, and conferences. Assist facilities staff with non-skilled work orders (e.g., such as equipment moves, minor fixture replacements, replacing air filters, and transporting supplies). Report observed maintenance or safety issues promptly to the facilities team. Other duties as assigned that are appropriate to the role and aligned with departmental responsibilities.


LOCATION

Kokomo (may travel to Logansport and Peru regularly)


WORK HOURS

Monday–Friday; 24-28 hrs. per week


HOURLY PAY RATE

$15.00-16.00


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS


  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Ability to work alone and with others

  • Initiative and ability to work without supervision, when required

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements to be an authorized driver of a college vehicle

  • Willingness and ability to earn a commercial applicator certification

  • Willingness and ability to participate in the Ivy Tech Building Construction Apprenticeship program

  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear

  • The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward

  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, chairs, scaffolds, and furniture

  • Candidate must be able to work from ladders and must have the ability to operate and work from mechanical lifts
