Groundskeeper (Seasonal) — Riverside Park South

Riverside Park Conservancy is the non‑profit conservancy that supports the New York City Parks Department in the care and restoration of Riverside Park, one of New York’s flagship parks and a registered Scenic Landmark.

Riverside Park Conservancy is seeking a Seasonal Groundskeeper to join our team. This role involves physically demanding work and close collaboration with Riverside Park and NYC parks staff, volunteers, and the public. The ideal candidate is positive, flexible, and able to engage effectively with others. This position reports directly to a Parks Supervisor.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance duties including, pulling weeds, picking up leaves, seeding, mowing, and edging with string trimmer as directed by supervisor.
  • Pick up litter and empty trash cans daily.
  • Sweep or blow off staircases and paved areas.
  • Perform periodic cleaning of facilities, including public restrooms.
  • Powerwash and clean graffiti as directed by supervisor.
  • Provide special events support by assisting with load‑in, setup, and load‑out of equipment, including tent, stages, tables, chairs, signage and barriers.
  • Ensure event areas are safe, clean, and organized before, during, and after programs.
  • Shovel snow from staircases and apply salt as needed.
  • Assist park patrons with wayfinding and other items as required.
  • Document and report safety concerns, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required to maintain park safety, cleanliness, and appearance.

Duration and Schedule: Seasonal, Full‑Time. Flexible start date in March through November 2026. Hours vary and will include weekend, early‑morning, or evening hours depending on event schedules and needs.

Qualifications
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance tools and equipment, or willingness to learn.
  • Must be comfortable working around dogs and the public.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working with power tools.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds with proper tools and work/maneuver outdoors (in all weather conditions).

Pay Rate: $ 22.22 per hour
