City of West Columbia is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain the grounds at the Lake Murray Water Treatment Facility, Riverside Water Treatment Facility, Distribution Storage, and Lift Station sites. Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Under supervision, perform mowing, weed eating, edging, pruning, and general grounds maintenance using lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers and hand tools. Requires a valid SC driver’s license and two years of groundskeeping experience.

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of administrative duties related to the maintenance of the grounds at the Lake Murray Water Treatment Facility, Riverside Water Treatment Facility, Distribution Storage, and Lift Station sites are kept clean and neat. Reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.
Vocational/technical school training/education in operating small engines and driving trucks, and at least two years of experience working in grounds keeping; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must possess a valid SC driver's license.
TO PERFORM JOB FUNCTIONS
Must be physically able to operate various types of trucks as well as a variety of types of equipment including mechanic's tools, lawn mowers, weed eater, blower, rake, shovel, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to thirty pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires constant standing, walking, reaching, stooping, crouching, and climbing. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately sixty (60) pounds.
Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the giving of assignments/instructions to subordinates. Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.

Is able to communicate effectively with supervisor, subordinates, other departmental personnel, sales reps, etc. Knows how to make minor repairs and/or adjustments to equipment. Has the ability to use independent judgment in routine as well as occasional non-routine situations. Has good technical, organizational, and supervisory skills.
Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with all City departments and divisions, co-workers and the public.
