More specifically, the Groundskeeper I is responsible for tasks related to maintaining the campus grounds, roads, and parking lots, including trash collection, seasonal landscaping, and snow removal. The position also assists Event Services with setup/breakdown of room arrangements, furniture, staging, and equipment relocation. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is required to assist during emergencies and college closures to ensure operational continuity.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

What you will do in this role

  1. Maintain campus grounds by trash collection, debris removal, and landscaping tasks.
  2. Mow, trim, edge, and remove grass clippings.
  3. Establish and maintain flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees, including planting, fertilizing, watering, pruning, and tree removal.
  4. Operate snow removal equipment, maintain and repair it as needed.
  5. Assist in event setup and breakdown, including furniture and equipment.
  6. Unload freight supporting various college departments.
  7. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment.
  8. Operate grounds vehicles and equipment.
  9. Maintain campus infrastructure such as fire hydrants, storm drains, and signage.
  10. Install and winterize campus sprinkler systems.
  11. Transport hazardous waste and assist in waste disposal procedures.
  12. Follow safety policies and use protective equipment.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience or basic knowledge in groundskeeping equipment operation.
  • Ability to work safely with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and at heights.
  • Valid driver's license with a good record.
