The role includes pruning, applying fertilizers and pesticides, and supporting a team; it may serve as shift lead in supervisor's absence. Monday–Friday schedule; starting pay $15–$19 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• One year of related experience is required.
• Must meet driving requirements with valid US driver's license.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks.

Responsibilities

• Uses horticultural expertise to inspect and care for a wide variety of trees, shrubbery and plants.
• Trims and prunes plants according to schedule and seasonal requirements.
• Inspects plants, trees and shrubbery for signs of illness or disease; works with grounds staff to care for damaged materials.
• Determines the appropriate amounts and timing to apply fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides and pesticides.
• Performs Groundskeeper I duties including mowing, weeding, watering grass and groundcover; keeps grounds clean and trash-free.
• Assists team with special projects and may serve as shift lead in absence of supervision.
• Communicates professionally with visitors and the university community; participates in ongoing department training.
