Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Groundskeeper II to maintain university campus grounds, using horticultural expertise to care for trees, shrubs and plants. You will assist with special projects and may serve as shift lead in absence of supervision.

Starting hourly rate is $15.00–$19.00, commensurate with experience. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., onsite. Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or GED and one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, and one year of related experience.
• Ability to operate riding or power mower and various tools.
• Good written and verbal communication; works well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and care for trees, shrubs and plants using horticultural expertise.
• Trim and prune according to schedule and seasonal needs.
• Apply fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides and pesticides as needed.
• Mow, weed, water, and maintain grounds; keep areas clean and trash-free.
• Assist team with special projects; may lead shift in absence of supervision.
• Communicate professionally with staff and campus visitors.
