Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years in landscape maintenance or related field.
  • Valid Ohio pesticide operator license or ability to obtain.
  • Proficient in irrigation troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills with staff and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide turf care including mowing, edging, and fertilization.
  • Maintain sidewalks, perform snow removal and deicing.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems; diagnose and troubleshoot.
  • Operate grounds equipment such as tractors, mowers, forklifts.
  • Inspect grounds for trash and perform cleanup.
  • Maintain shrub beds, trees, and landscape; prune and mulch.
  • Supervise student and part-time employees.
  • Keep records of chemical applications, equipment maintenance, inventories.
  • Other duties including holiday lighting, wildlife control, recycling, trash hauling.

Position Summary

The Sinclair Groundskeeper II is responsible for maintaining thecampus grounds and landscaping. This position will evaluateexterior conditions, which include all horticultural material,streets, sidewalks, signs, irrigation, banners, pavers, generalappearance, safety conditions and planning or redesigning elementsthat would enhance the appearance of the campus. The GroundskeeperII provides general preventative and scheduled maintenance of allequipment relating to the Grounds Department. This positionperforms snow removal and deicing on campus during inclementweather conditions. The Groundskeeper II works with and supervisespart-time and student employees.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provide turf care to include mowing, edging, trimming,fertilizer applications, herbicide applications and insecticideapplications
  • Maintain all pedestrian sidewalks and concrete pavers in a safeclean manner to include snow removal and deicing, and sweeping ofsidewalks as well as emergency repairs as necessary
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems to include diagnosingand troubleshooting systems and operation of computerized controlsystem
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in the Grounds Department toinclude tractors, mowers, front end loaders, backhoe, truck,sprayer, forklift, utility vehicles and rental equipment
  • Inspect campus grounds for trash to include emptying trashreceptacles, picking up trash and general cleanup
  • Provide maintenance of all shrub beds, groundcover beds,flowerbeds and trees on campus to include fertilizing, weedcontrol, pest control, mulching and pruning
  • Supervision of student and part time employees
  • Keep accurate records of all chemical applications, equipmentmaintenance and inventories of supplies
  • Other duties as assigned to include but not limited to; holidaylighting display installation and removal, wildlife control,recycling and building trash hauling
Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in landscape maintenance,garden center sales or related experience required
  • Must possess (or be able to obtain) a valid Ohio Department ofAgriculture Public Operator License for pesticide application inturf and ornamentals
    • Bi-annual recertification is required to maintainlicensure
  • Proficiency in irrigation system troubleshooting anddiagnostics required, gained through 2–3 years of hands-onexperience or completion of an Irrigation Service School programpreferred
  • Strong daily communication skills required to effectivelyinteract with employees, students, contractors, and customersrequired
  • Knowledge of plant materials, insects and diseaseidentification required
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurability byCollege’s insurance provider required
