Job summary

Montana Technological University is seeking a Groundskeeper II with 2+ years of grounds landscaping, turf maintenance, snow removal, and irrigation experience. A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a pesticide license within 4 months are required. The role leads the crew in the Grounds Manager’s absence.

Responsibilities

  • General campus grounds cleaning & maintenance; snow removal and sanding of sidewalks and streets.
  • Fertilizing, mowing, weed eating, watering, maintaining sprinkler systems and turf.
  • Turf maintenance, pruning, planting, weeding, aerating, power raking, blowing out sprinkler systems and trash removal.
  • Move, install, and assist in directing work of student assistants; lead Grounds crew in absence of Grounds Manager.

Groundskeeper II – Physical Facilities – Full Time

Montana Technological University seeks Groundskeeper II: applicants will need 2 or more years of experience in performing all categories of grounds landscaping, turf maintenance, snow removal, irrigation sprinkler repairs; preferably in large commercial type settings.

Duties

General campus grounds cleaning & maintenance; Snow removal and sanding of sidewalks and streets. Fertilizing, mowing. weed eating, watering, maintaining sprinkler systems, turf maintenance, pruning, planting, weeding, aerating, power raking, blowing out sprinkler systems and trash removal. Keeping all equipment in good running condition for each season. Moving, office furniture, and equipment. Graduation set up, yearly plant-in for campus. Assist in directing the work of student assistants. Takes the lead of Grounds crew in absence of the Grounds Manager.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of pest management practices and procedures, including weed management.
  • Required to obtain Pesticide license for # 55 Regulatory Weeds from the Montana Department of Agriculture within 4 months of award of the Groundskeeper II position. Must maintain the license year to year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds construction and care.
  • Knowledge of operating grounds maintenance and grounds construction equipment and tools.
  • One year or more gardening and groundskeeping duties.
  • Experience maintaining large grounds preferred.
  • Experience with underground irrigation sprinkler repairs, adjustments, and replacement preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 50 pounds: Move heavy campus supplies like ice melt and fertilizer and other general groundskeeping materials.
  • May be required to Lift up to 75 pounds: Move heavy mailroom packages and furniture across campus.
  • May be required to Lift over 150 pounds (with help): Work with teammates to move very large items.
  • Daily movement: Walk long distances across campus, bend down, kneel, and work outside in all weather.
