$15.10 - $19.24Starting salary based on qualifications and experience.Job DescriptionGroundskeeper-Boones CaveGeneral Statement of DutiesPerforms responsible maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and facilities at all Parks and Recreation facilities.Distinguishing Features of the ClassAn employee in this class is responsible for maintaining property, buildings, and grounds. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.Illustrative Examples of WorkMay open and close the park and facilities.Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities, including restrooms; supplies facilities with paper products.Maintains landscaping, shrubs and trees.Builds, places, repairs, and secures signs for the park.Maintains trails, walking paths and grassy areas.Assists the general public with regard to questions and monitors the general safety of park visitors.Maintains supply of educational materials for park visitors.Recruitment and Selection GuidelinesKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGeneral maintenance and mechanical knowledge.Technical ability.Ability to recognize problem areas and react accordingly.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public.Physical RequirementsMust be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must possess visual acuity to operate machines and hand tools.Must possess visual acuity to perform mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics and etc.Must posses the visual acuity to operate trucks, Bobcats and other equipment.Must posses the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.Worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions; temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour and temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.Worker is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.Worker is subject to oils and other cutting fluids.Worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl space, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.Worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passage ways.Worker is in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.Education and ExperienceHigh school education with some experience in landscaping and equipment repair; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Licenses and CertificationsValid North Carolina Driver License.
