Class Description

Since 1957, CCBC has opened the doors to accessible, affordable, high-quality education empowering generations of area residents to improve their lives and the lives of others. Each year, more than 63,000 students enroll at the college’s main campuses, extension centers and online. The Groundskeeper Associate position provides an immediate full-time (40 hours per week) opportunity to those individuals with limited groundskeeping experience to gain the training experience to prepare successful candidates to be promoted to a benefits-eligible (i.e. Vacation and Personal Leave, Medical Insurance, Retirement Plan, and paid selected holidays and break periods) full-time Groundskeeper position, and a pay increase, in as little as six weeks. Safe and Sick Leave is offered to all Groundskeeper Associates. Groundskeeper Associate is responsible for the care, maintenance, and repair of the college grounds and landscaping.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in institutional or commercial groundskeeping, preferred.
  • Flexibility and ability to change shift when requested.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record of less than five (5) points on driving record.
Background Check
  • Candidates may be required to successfully pass a background investigation, to include driving and criminal history evaluation.
  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete a physical examination, including drug screening prior to being promoted to a Groundskeeper position. Candidates who are unsuccessful in successfully completing a physical examination will not be eligible for promotion to Groundskeeper and will be removed from the Associate position.
Essential Duties
  1. Mows, trims, edges grass areas. Weeds, cultivates and mulches flower and shrubbery beds. Plants, transplants and prunes trees, shrubs, and flowers. Grades, fertilizes, limes, and aerates sods, seeds, and waters. Clears wooded areas, prunes trees, and shrubs, remove fallen trees, branches, weeds and rubbish.
  2. Performs work associated with maintenance and repairs to campus landscaping and gardens.
  3. Participates in landscaping project work.
  4. Patches asphalt or concrete areas. Performs traffic control painting and sign maintenance/installation; as well as, grounds-related painting.
  5. Sets up and operates trucks, tractors, mowers, excavators, and other grounds related equipment. Cleans and performs minor preventative maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.
  6. Participates in snow removal efforts.
  7. Participates in campus exterior trash/recycling collection.
  8. Assists in the implementation of college and non-college events/activities.
  9. Effectively performs in a service environment and follows all county, state, college, and departmental policies and procedures.

Term Life Insurance
  • Employee Basic Life Insurance is 1 times your salary with a minimum of $50,000 (90/10).

Supplemental Term Life Insurance is available for spouse (increments of $10,000 to a maximum of 50% of employee combined basic and supplemental amount) and dependents ($10,000). Supplemental Term Life Insurance is 100% employee paid.
Permanent Whole Life Insurance
  • Permanent Whole Life Insurance with Optional Long Term Carerider available through Unum. Available to full-time employees, part-time associates, and adjunct faculty.
  • Spouse and dependent coverage available. Permanent Whole Life Insurance accrues cash value, premiums will not increase, and coverage will not decrease. Permanent Whole Life Insurance is 100% employee paid.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Individual or Family Coverage. Employee pays a rate in multiples of $10,000 to a maximum of $300,000.

Long-Term Disability

Plan pays 60% of gross monthly salary after 90 consecutive days of absence. Employee pays 100% of premium.

Supplemental (Retirement Annuities) 403(b) and 457(b)

  • 403(b) supplemental retirement plan is available to all CCBC employees (Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees).
  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax‑free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre‑tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post‑tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
