Job summary

Brooke Grove Foundation Inc. in Olney, MD is seeking a Groundskeeper for full-time, day-shift work. You’ll assist with grounds upkeep, landscape operations and equipment repairs under the supervision of the grounds supervisor.

Duties include mowing, trimming, seeding, planting shrubs and maintaining lawns, applying fertilizers, and ensuring equipment safety and repair readiness. Qualifications include an AA degree or equivalent or 6 months to 1 year of related experience, plus a valid driver's

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds upkeep under supervision.
• Prepares and grades terrain, applies fertilizers, seeding and sodding lawns, and transplanting shrubs and plants.
• Plants new and repairs established lawns using seed mixtures and fertilizers.
• Locates, plants, and cultivates shrubs, trees, and flowers.
• Mows and trims lawns and cleans grounds.
• Sprays trees and shrubs and applies nutrients; digs trenches and drains.
• Ensures equipment is in safe working order and makes repairs as needed.

Responsibilities of a Groundskeeper:

• Assists with maintaining grounds upkeep, landscape operations, and repair of equipment under the direction of grounds supervisor.
• Participates in preparing and grading terrain, applying fertilizers, seeding and sodding lawns, and transplanting shrubs and plants
• Plants new and repairs established lawns, using seed mixtures and fertilizers recommended for soil type and lawn location.
• Locates, plants, and cultivates shrubs, trees, and flowers recommended for landscape effect.
• Mows and trims lawns. Trims shrubs and cultivate gardens. Cleans grounds.
• Sprays trees and shrubs, and applies supplemental liquid and dry nutrients to lawn and trees. Digs trenches and installs drain tiles.
• Ensures that mowing and landscaping equipment and apparatus is in safe working order. Make repairs to mowing and landscaping equipment and apparatus as necessary.

Requirements of a Groundskeeper:

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Must have a valid drivers' license.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, volume, and measurement.
