Job summary

UCLA Facilities Management is seeking an outdoor maintenance team member to care for the campus landscapes, lawns, walkways, courtyards and athletic fields, helping preserve the health and beauty of the campus. Responsibilities include pruning shrubs, mowing and edging lawns, plant care, operating power equipment, and collaborating with colleagues; ability to work independently and overtime as needed.

Must hold California driver’s license; background checks apply; schedule 6:30 AM–3 PM, Mon-Fri;

Qualifications

• Two years horticultural experience with a variety of plant life, pests and diseases (Required).
• Broad knowledge of landscape plants and turfgrass (Required).
• Experience in pruning shrubs, mowing/edging lawns and cultivating plants (Required).
• Ability to operate mower, edger, trimmer, shears, generator, renovator and aerifier (Required).
• Team collaboration with colleagues (Required).
• Ability to work independently and follow through (Required).
• Oral communication to convey information clearly (Required).
• Ability to read standard English to follow written orders (Required).
• Ability to write simple English text for reports and work orders (Required).
• Knowledge of safe work practices (Required).
• Good attendance (Required).
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends and special events (Required).

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus landscapes including lawns, walkways, courtyards, plazas, gardens and athletic fields.
• Prune shrubs, mow and edge lawns, cultivate plants.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

• Horticultural Experience Two years experience in the care and treatment of a wide variety of plant life, including ability to identify horticultural pests and diseases. (Required)
• Broad knowledge in the identification and care of commonly used landscape plants and turf grass. (Required)
• Experience and working knowledge of proper methods in pruning shrubs, mowing/edging lawns and cultivating plants. (Required)
• Ability to maintain and safely operate power driven equipment, e.g., mower, edger, trimmer, shears, generator, renovator and aerifier, as well as various hand tools. (Required)
• Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues. (Required)
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
• Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. (Required)
• Skill in reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments. (Required)
• Ability to write simple English text using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports, forms and work orders that are accurate and easy to comprehend. (Required)
• Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required)

• Must possess California Driver's License, Class C, and ability to drive a University truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties. 100 (Required)
