Job summary

UCLA Facilities Management is seeking staff for outdoor maintenance to preserve the health and beauty of the 419-acre campus with lawns, walkways, courtyards and fields. The role entails performing a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks across lawn care, pruning, planting, and equipment operation.

Position requires two years of horticultural experience, California driver’s license, and ability to work weekends/overtime.

Qualifications

• Two years horticultural experience in care and treatment of plants and pest/disease identification.
• Broad knowledge of landscape plants and turf grass.
• Experience pruning shrubs and mowing/edging lawns.
• Ability to operate power-driven equipment (mower, edger, trimmer, etc.).
• Able to work as part of a team and independently.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read standard English and follow written orders.
• Ability to write simple English for reports and work orders.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

• Horticultural Experience Two years experience in the care and treatment of a wide variety of plant life, including ability to identify horticultural pests and diseases. (Required)
• Broad knowledge in the identification and care of commonly used landscape plants and turf grass. (Required)
• Experience and working knowledge of proper methods in pruning shrubs, mowing/edging lawns and cultivating plants. (Required)
• Ability to maintain and safely operate power driven equipment, e.g., mower, edger, trimmer, shears, generator, renovator and aerifier, as well as various hand tools. (Required)
• Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues. (Required)
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
• Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. (Required)
• Skill in reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments. (Required)
• Ability to write simple English text using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports, forms and work orders that are accurate and easy to comprehend. (Required)
• Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required)
• Ability to maintain good attendance. (Required)
• Ability to work overtime, weekends and special events. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• Must possess California Driver's License, Class C, and ability to drive a University truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties. 100 (Required)
