Responsibilities

• Mow lawns, trim hedges, plant flowers and shrubs.
• Prepare grounds for activities and events.
• Apply chemicals to protect plants from disease and pests as needed.
• Maintain campus vehicles and assist with repairs or cleaning.
• Assist with office and department moves and special events.
• Occasional driving of university van between campuses and events.

Job Description:

The Groundskeeper maintains and cares for University grounds andvehicles by mowing lawns, trimming hedges, planting flowers andshrubs, removing snow, maintaining KCU vehicles, and assisting withspecial events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures the campus creates a favorable impression
• Prepares grounds for assigned activities
• Makes sure plants are free of disease and insects, applyingchemicals as needed
• Keeps the ground clear of debris
• Ensures grounds are clear and safe during inclementweather
• Monitors equipment for optimal performance, reportingmalfunctions, breakages to the supervisor
• Maintains KCU vehicles, washing cars, delivering cars for minorpreventive maintenance services, taking vehicle in for repairs,performing detail cleaning
• Helps with office and department moves
• Assists with special events
• Occasional driver responsibility of university van betweencampuses in Kansas City and Joplin, local and out of town meetingsand events
• Contributes to the team effort by performing related duties asneeded or assigned

Qualifications:

• Knowledge typically obtained through a high school diploma,GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, includingreading, writing, speaking, and understanding information necessaryto perform the essential functions of the position
• One year of experience in groundskeeping preferred
• Must have valid driver's license
• Must be capable of operating and maintaining a variety ofequipment used on grounds - including snow removal equipment
• Willing and available to work alternative hours as needed forseason or special events
• Requires the ability to bend, stoop, and lift 120 pounds
