Job summary

University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain campus landscapes, mow, prune, plant, water, and install sprinklers as needed. 6 am - 3 pm, Monday to Friday on the Fort Worth campus.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2 years related experience; valid Texas driver's license. Benefits information available upon request.

Department Summary

UNT Health and Science Center grounds department is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, overall care and beautification of campus grounds, including grass, trees, flowers, plants, parking garages and lots.

Position Overview

Landscape or maintain grounds using hand or power tools or equipment. Perform tasks such as sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking and sprinkler installation.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass.
• Skill in using grounds-keeping hand tools and equipment, operating motorized and gas-operated equipment, and repairing and maintaining sidewalks and parking lots.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in grounds maintenance involving work with flowers, landscape, turf grass, irrigation, or related areas.

Required License / Registration / Certifications

Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.

Job Duties

• Gather and remove litter.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
• Operate vehicles or powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twinaxle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws.
• Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using shears, pruners, or chainsaws.
• Snow and ice removal.
• Water lawns, trees, or plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans when necessary.
• Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
• Communicate with others to exchange information.

• Elevated temperatures.
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.
• Low temperatures.
• Noisy environments.
• Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
