Job summary

City of Wilmington is seeking a Grounds Technician to maintain city parks, athletic facilities, and landscaping. You will perform mowing, edging, trimming, and litter removal while engaging professionally with the public and staff.

Responsibilities include setting up for events, keeping daily records, performing basic equipment maintenance, and assisting with emergencies. This outdoor role requires reliability and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
• Class C Driver’s License.
• Ability to work before, during, and after emergencies and/or natural disasters.
• Basic computer literacy as necessitated for timekeeping, performance documentation and online training.

• Performs general maintenance by mowing grass, edging, weed eating, picking up trash, trimming landscape, cleaning bathrooms and shelters, removing trash cans, watering, and fertilizing.
• Assists with special projects by setting up for events and assisting with natural disaster cleanup.
• Opens and secures facilities, operates alarm system, locks doors and gates, turns off and on stadium lights, and operates sound equipment and scoreboards.
• Provides customer service to the public by assisting with athletic team requests, and working with citizens to meet their needs.
• Keeps accurate records and daily worksheets; performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

You’ll help maintain City parks, landscaping projects, and athletic fields by mowing, weed eating, edging, pruning, removing trash, performing janitorial tasks, and caring for turf—all while interacting professionally with the public and staff.

You’ll assist with setting up for special events, keep accurate records and daily worksheets, perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, help clean up after weather emergencies, and support other departments whenever needed

JOB DUTIES:

• Performs general maintenance by mowing grass, edging, weed eating, picking up trash, applying pesticides, trimming landscape, cleaning bathrooms and shelters, removing trash cans, watering, and fertilizing.
• Assists with special projects by setting up for events and assisting with natural disaster clean up.
  

Positions assigned to the Athletics division may also be responsible for the following:

• Opens and secures facilities by operating alarm system, locking doors and gates, turning off and on stadium lights, and operating sound equipment and scoreboards.
• Provides customer service to the public by assisting with athletic team requests, and working with citizens to meet their needs.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. No experience is required.
• Class C Driver’s License.
• Ability to work before, during, and after emergencies and/or natural disasters.
• Basic computer literacy as necessitated for timekeeping, performance documentation and online training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifts and moves up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position generally requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
