DMU is seeking a Grounds Technician, responsible for maintaining grounds at all University locations. Responsibilities include planting, pruning, cultivating of trees, shrubs, flowers, and the seeding, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming of all University grounds. Will also oversee grounds irrigation levels and removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, other weather-generated debris, and trash from all University grounds.

Assist in emergency services and routine work as directed. Also includes moving furniture and assisting with room setups, grounds, building maintenance, cleaning, and other duties to maintain operations.

What you’ll do:

  • Clean and maintain the grounds; perform basic landscaping duties.
  • Operate mowers, edgers, chain saws and trimmers to cut grass.
  • Rake leaves and trim hedges; prune shrubs and check for disease; pull weeds.
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Apply insecticides and pesticides to plants and weeds, as necessary.
  • Clean parking lots and courtyards.
  • Remove trash from building grounds and empty trash cans.

What we are looking for:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent is required, additional education a plus.
  • Two years experience in grounds maintenance responsibilities; working at an educational institution a plus.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Iowa Driver’s License.
