Parks and Recreation (DPR) is a Department of Prince William County. We provide a broad range of recreation and leisure services and amenities to meet the changing needs of the County's growing and diverse population. The Department manages more than 4,000 acres of parkland and recreational facilities, including more than 50 parks, two water parks, two fitness & aquatic centers, two community centers, four outdoor pools, three 18-hole golf courses, two marinas, and nearly 200 athletic fields.
As a Grounds Maintenance Skilled Worker, you'll play an essential role in maintaining County parks, buildings, schools, athletic fields, and other public amenities that serve the community. This position performs a variety of skilled grounds-maintenance duties, including turf care, athletic field maintenance, landscape maintenance, and park amenity upkeep. You'll use specialized equipment, tools, and techniques to maintain high-quality grounds while adapting to changing conditions and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys physical work as much as operating equipment. You'll perform tasks such as mowing, trimming, aerating, seeding, sodding, edging, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, preparing and lining athletic fields, grooming artificial turf, constructing pitching mounds, and installing field equipment. Working under general supervision, you'll be expected to apply established procedures, exercise sound judgment, provide feedback to supervisors on site conditions, and contribute both independently and as part of a collaborative team to ensure County facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the public.
8th-grade education and 1 year of Maintenance and Operations experience.
This is a 7-day per week operation. Typical workday is 7.5 hours, Monday-Friday, with some rotating weekend requirements. The schedule is generally 7 am-3 pm with slight variations for start and stop times.
Hiring Salary Range: $26.63-$31.33
