Job summary

Sumtercatholic is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform mowing, shrubbery and tree maintenance, edging, and general landscape care on church grounds.

The role requires safety awareness, ability to operate various equipment, and reliability; weekend or evening availability may be needed; high school diploma preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs grounds maintenance activities, e.g., mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, planting foliage and mulching.
• Performs shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, e.g., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, cutting branches.
• Operates various tools and equipment (saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers).
• Maintains district property cleanliness and safety; reports maintenance or repair needs.
• Cleans and maintains equipment, tools, and materials; follows safe operation practices.
• Removes trash and recycles materials; transports to disposal area.

Job description

The grounds maintenance worker provides a variety of services such as grounds maintenance, mowing, and tree trimming and landscaping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. • Performs grounds maintenance activities, i.e., mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, planting foliage and mulching.
• Performs shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, i.e., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, cutting branches.
• Operates various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, weed-eaters, hedge trimmers.
• Provides grounds maintenance services; ensures cleanliness, order, and environmentally safe conditions of district property; addresses safety concerns in a time efficient manner; reports real or potential maintenance/repair needs.
• Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, and materials.
• Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transporting materials to disposal area; recycling materials.
• Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or otherwise prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions. Is aware of and reports any unauthorized person on the premises.
• Maintains building interior by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, counters, walls and woodwork.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent preferred supplemented by any previous experience demonstrating ability to y to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work, as applicable to the assigned maintenance area (i.e., grounds maintenance, mowing, and tree trimming); or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 35 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials 30 pounds.
