Job summary

Fayette County Board of Commissioners seeks a Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform landscaping duties, operate a county vehicle and a range of power tools. The role requires upkeep of park facilities and safety checks for playgrounds, with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities include debris removal, equipment maintenance, and assisting with seasonal maintenance tasks. The position is full-time with benefits and requires working evenings and weekends when needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

• Operates or uses a County vehicle and various equipment to complete work assignments including lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, loaders, and other power equipment.
• Picks up trash and debris at park facilities; cleans restrooms.
• Checks playground for safety and makes repairs to equipment as needed.
• Maintains machinery, equipment and tools; inspects equipment, checks fluids, cleans work areas and reports faulty equipment.
• Available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Grounds Maintenance Worker - Building & Grounds

This is a full-time position with benefits. The Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice,etc. An incumbent in this position may be designated a Grounds Maintenance Worker I, II, or III.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

1. Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment.

2. Picks up trash and debris at park facilities; cleans restrooms.

3. Checks playground for safety and makes any needed repairs to equipment.

4. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.

5. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational goals.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
