Job summary

Purdue University is seeking a dedicated outdoor service/maintenance staff member to help maintain over 70 acres of grass playfields and outdoor recreation facilities. You will perform turf maintenance and general grounds tasks, and assist with upkeep of equipment and facilities across indoor and outdoor settings.

The role requires a high school diploma/GED, 3 years of grounds keeping experience, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED
• 3 years of experience in grounds keeping or general maintenance
• Must be able to perform manual work for extended periods and lift up to 60 pounds
• Operate commercial grounds/lawn equipment
• Use a variety of hand and power tools
• Work independently or in a team and exercise good judgement and problem solving
• Communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors, and patrons
• Read and comprehend verbal and written instructions; interpret manuals, schematics and blueprints
• Carry and use a two-way radio; CORE certification in first year of employment
• Have basic masonry, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting skills or ability to learn
• Basic math is required
• Must be able to work occasional overtime
• Valid Indiana driver’s license or ability to obtain (helpful)

Job description

Serve as a member of the outdoor service/maintenance staff for Recreation & Wellness. Assist with the upkeep of over 70 acres of grass playfields and numerous outdoor recreational facilities. Perform turf maintenance and grounds keeping tasks. Additional maintenance tasks are performed on indoor and outdoor equipment and facilities requiring basic mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and fabrication work.

What We’re Looking For:

• High school diploma/GED
• 3 years of experience in grounds keeping or general maintenance.
• Must be able to perform manual work for extended periods of time and be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• Must be able to operate commercial grounds/lawn equipment.
• Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools.
• Must be able to work independently as part of a team, adaptively and exercise good judgment/problem solving.
• Must be able to communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors, and patrons.
• Must be able to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions, and can interpret technical manuals, schematics and blueprints.
• Must be able to carry and use a two-way radio. Must already possess or be able to obtain CORE certification in first year of employment.
• Must have basic masonry, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting skills or the ability to learn.
