POSITION TITLE: GROUND MAINTENANCE WORKER

FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

Job Summary

The Ground Maintenance position is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of outdoor spaces. This role includes performing a variety of landscaping and groundskeeping tasks such as planting, mowing, pruning, irrigation, and general upkeep of green areas. The individual will also operate and maintain equipment, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and assist with storm preparations as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Implement effective techniques for planting, pruning, cultivating, and irrigating trees, shrubs, hedges, and lawns.
2. Replace and plant flowers, grass, shrubs, trees, and bushes to maintain vibrant landscapes.
3. Operate and oversee grounds-keeping equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
4. Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems; train staff on addressing issues like faulty sprinkler heads or damaged pipes.
5. Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on grounds-keeping equipment.
6. Clear walkways and parking areas of debris to maintain cleanliness and safety.
7. Apply fertilizers and manage pest control to promote healthy plant growth.
8. Address concerns regarding grounds conditions, appearance, or improvements.
9. Collaborate with management on maintenance goals, priorities, and schedules.
10. Perform facility maintenance tasks and support in the absence of other maintenance staff.
11. Support hurricane and storm preparations to ensure safety of clinic facilities.
12. Perform additional tasks to support the centers as needed.

Education and Experience

1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. At least four years of related experience required.
3. Proficiency in operating and maintaining lawn care and landscaping equipment, including performing basic repairs.
4. Knowledge of fertilizers and nutrients for healthy lawns and vegetation.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
2. Capability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds or more.
3. Ability to climb, stoop, crouch, and reach during maintenance tasks.
4. Comfort working in varying weather conditions.
5. Proficiency with hand tools, power equipment, and machinery with safety.
6. Good vision and hearing for operating machinery and identifying hazards.
7. Ability to perform repetitive tasks and sustain productivity.
8. Maintain awareness to avoid accidents while working with tools or near machinery.
9. Must be able to travel to various center locations as needed.
