Job summary

Great Places Housing Group is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative to perform Grounds maintenance across communal areas, open space grassed areas and landscaped spaces as part of a team delivering high-quality service.

You will handle grass cutting, edging, hedge work, planting and litter removal, operate hand and power tools and report faults, safety hazards and safeguarding concerns in line with policy.

Qualifications

  • Full driving licence is required.
  • Previous grounds maintenance experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out grounds maintenance across schemes including grass cutting, edging, hedge trimming, planting, spraying and litter clearance.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools and vehicles; perform daily defect checks and report faults.
  • Report graffiti, vandalism and defects in external communal areas and maintain safety standards.
  • Seasonal snow/ice clearance and gritting as part of health and safety duties.
  • Adhere to quality standards and COSHH/health and safety requirements.
  • Daily checks of vehicles/equipment and keep tools clean and well stored.
  • Use herbicides/pesticides safely and report invasive weeds.
  • Report safeguarding concerns as per organisational guidelines.

Job description

You will undertake grounds maintenance works to communal environments including communal grounds around homes, open space grassed area, and landscaped areas and to deliver a maintenance programme as part of a team that contributes to excellent service delivery. You will work with caretaking teams and other GPHG colleagues and external partners to maintain clean, green and safe environments. Seasonally assist with snow and ice removal, gritting and litter picking and fly tip removal and reporting of communal and environmental maintenance issues and joint working with others to deliver excellent services.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Complete grounds maintenance activities to Great Places schemes and communal environmental areas to the requirements of Great Places Grounds Maintenance Specification including grass cutting, edging, hedge trimming, planting, spraying, and clearance of leaves and litter.
  • You will be operating a range of hand tools and equipment (inc. power tools), and vehicles and to carry out daily defect checks of tools and equipment, completing basic maintenance tasks of it and reporting damage and maintenance issues with them.
  • Report any graffiti, vandalism, repairs and defects in the external communal areas where you are working.
  • Seasonally assist with snow and ice clearance, gritting activities and other health and safety maintenance required on Great Places schemes.
  • Adhere to all relevant quality standards and health and safety/COSHH requirements.
  • You will undertake daily checks of vehicles and equipment and ensure equipment is kept in a clean condition and stored correctly.
  • You will work safely with herbicides/pesticides in accordance with regulations and report invasive weeds.
  • You will report any safeguarding concerns in line with organisation guidelines.

  • You will be required to attend a number of face to face training sessions as well as virtual sessions and e-learning this part of your role is vital and of equal importance as the day to day aspects

For the purposes of our van fleet insurance you must have a minimum of 2 years driving experience with a full UK driving licence, be over the age of 21 and complete an on-line driver monitoring Assessment prior to starting your role. If you are under 21 but with 2 years driving experience with a full UK driving licence you would be required to complete an on-line driver monitoring assessment and additional in vehicle assessment prior to starting your role funded by Great Places.
