Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Course work up to certification or degree in turf/agronomy/forestry/horticulture/natural resources strengthens application.
• Pesticides license when required by assignment.
• Possesses or can obtain a valid driver’s license within one year.
• State or provincial licenses related to pesticides or CDL are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform turf, landscape and plant maintenance tasks: seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, aerating, irrigating, plant installation.
• Assist with plant pest control and chemical applications as qualified.
• Remove plants/trees and perform basic building and facility maintenance tasks.
• Maintain roadways, walkways and perform minor repairs, patching and seal coating.
• Operate and service equipment; assist in renovation projects and specialized facility operations.

Job Description

Grounds Maintenance maintains and enhances Park District's facilities by performing entry-level and, as capable, semi-skilled jobs in a manner, which assures a quality product and programs consistent with Park District policies.

• Performs entry-level and, as capable, semi-skilled work of a routine, repetitive nature in a responsible manner; typical duties including but not limited to:
• Turf, landscape and plant maintenance functions such as seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, aerating, spraying, plant installation and harvesting, soil preparation, irrigating, plant propagation
• Plant pest control such as chemical applications
• Plant/tree removal
• Building and facility maintenance such as cleaning, minor repairs and service maintenance
• Roadway and walk maintenance such as plowing, grading, patching, and seal coating
• Equipment maintenance such as oil and filter changing, lubrication, blade sharpening and belt adjusting
• Assisting with various park construction renovation projects
• Performing tasks at specialized facility operations and maintenance locations such as golf courses, stables, The Chalet, aquatics areas, etc.
• Installing, maintaining, and removing signs and boundary markers, as assigned
• May be required to possess knowledge in handling and applying pesticides and fertilizers
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment. Makes minor mechanical repairs and service on divisions equipment as directed
• Works with skilled-level employees (Senior Technician; Technician) toward the completion of construction renovation projects and repair work of facilities
• Works towards the proficiency in the operation and maintenance of the following equipment: Trucks; tractors; farm and light construction equipment; front-end loader; backhoe; hydraulic mowing equipment; utility vehicles; small engine equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of semi-skilled experience preferred.
• Course work up to and including certification (i.e., Arborist, etc.), Associate Degree and/or university classes in turf, agronomy, forestry, horticulture, plant science, natural resources, or related fields, would strengthen a candidate’s application
• Pesticides license when required by work assignment or location
• Possess valid driver’s license
• Possesses or has ability to obtain within one year of employment one of the following:
• Ohio Department of Agriculture herbicide/pesticide license
• State of Ohio Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes
• Demonstrated ability to perform variable physical requirements of park maintenance work
• Previous experience in and knowledge of Park Operation’s procedures, duties, equipment operation desirable
• Demonstrated ability to exhibit leadership consistent with teamwork approach that recognizes contribution of all employees

Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 6 AM - 2:30 PM
