Job summary

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is seeking a Grounds Maintenance worker to uphold lawn maintenance across the campus, ensuring a professional and well-kept appearance under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. The role involves outdoor work and routine lifting.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and demonstrated competency with lawn equipment, plus a valid driver's license. The position requires flexibility in schedule and location across college campuses.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Competency with lawn maintenance equipment (mowers, weed eaters, trimmers).
• Able to lift, stand, twist, push and pull for most of the shift (67-100%).
• Lift loads of 20-50 lbs routinely.
• Active and valid Driver’s license required and in good standing.
• Ability to work overhead outdoors, with or without ladders, for extended periods.

Job Description

The Grounds Worker will provide lawn maintenance of the College and ensure a professional appearance of the grounds is maintained at all times. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Duties

1. 1. Responsible for daily upkeep of the grounds including weed removal, trimming of trees, hedges, bushes, mulching and trash/debris removal/disposal.
2. 2. Application of chemical treatment to grounds following safety guidelines.
3. 3. Maintain adequate inventory of lawn supplies, and ensure regular maintenance of grounds equipment.
4. 4. Report any safety related issues, unusual or extraordinary circumstances involving the college grounds or Students.
5. 5. Maintain Employee uniform and present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
6. 6. Provide a courteous and timely response to request for assistance.
7. 7. Adhere to all College policies and procedures.
8. 8. Assist with grounds maintenance at other campuses/locations of College as needed.
9. 9. Flexible work schedule and location may be required.
10. 10. Other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications

1. (M1) High School diploma or High School Equivalency.
2. (M2) Demonstrated competency in the use of lawn maintenance equipment (i.e. lawn mowers, weed eaters and trimmers).
