Job summary

Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska seeks a hands-on Grounds Maintenance worker to manage and improve outdoor spaces and related facilities. You’ll support garden plots, landscaping, and habitat areas while operating a range of grounds equipment and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

The role requires 18+ years old, a valid driver’s license, pesticide licensing within 90 days, and on-call availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Experience in grounds maintenance or agriculture required.
• Minimum age 18 years.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Pass MVR check annually.
• On-call evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Nebraska pesticide/herbicide applicator license required within 90 days.
• In-house certification post-hire to operate boom truck, forklift and loader.

Responsibilities

• Participates in production, maintenance, and clean-up of grounds and facilities.
• Maintains garden plots, tills, plants, and may order supplies.
• Maintains landscaped areas, beds, interior plants; assists with habitat and greenhouse tasks.
• Maintains fruit trees and orchards; prune and remove hazardous trees.
• Weed and control unwanted species; safe pesticide applications.
• Operates grounds equipment (mowers, tractors, loaders, chainsaws); drives required vehicles.
• Keeps equipment in good condition and performs tune-ups.
• Performs building maintenance and snow/ice removal as needed.
• Supervises youth grounds and landscaping projects.
