Job summary

The City of Overland Park seeks a Grounds Operations Specialist I to join the Arboretum Grounds team in the Parks and Recreation Services Department. This full-time position focuses on grounds maintenance, plant and landscape care, and supporting trails, trees, turf and prairie areas to deliver an inviting outdoor environment.

Responsibilities include operating landscape equipment, assisting with events, and helping in emergency operations.

Qualifications

• Basic education or equivalent experience.
• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
• Commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsement within 6 months after employment.
• Pesticide applicators license categories General and 3A is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, inspects, repairs, lubricates and cleans equipment and tools per manufacturer specifications.
• Performs facility opening and closing procedures for daily operations and for special events.
• Operates various equipment including chipper, chainsaws, spider lift, loaders, stump grinder and one-ton pickup.
• Assists with planting and maintenance of landscape beds, shrubs, perennials, trees and annuals.
• Performs landscaping maintenance: mowing, mulching, weeding, watering, grading and fertilizing.
