Job description

Working Location: Wallops Island

Compensation: $17.75/hr

The Laborer Grounds Maintenance is responsible for maintaining grounds on industrial, commercial, or public property such as buildings, camps, picnic grounds, parks, airports, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields. The role involves repairing structures and equipment, and operating various ground maintenance tools.

1. Operate gasoline-powered or manual ground maintenance and landscape tools to perform tasks including:

• Cutting grass with walk-behind or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.)
• Trimming hedges and edges around walks, plant beds, using hedge trimmers and clippers
• Spraying lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide under supervision
• Operating a weed eater (spin trimmer)
• Pruning shrubs and trees with shears and hand tools
• Planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; cultivating and mulching beds
• Watering lawns and shrubs during dry periods
• Collecting and disposing of leaves, paper, and litter
• Removing snow using shovels and snowblowers, spreading salt
• Repairing and painting fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings
• Assisting in repairs of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment
