Job summary

GDS LLC in Saint Joseph, MO is seeking a Groundskeeper to support daily plant operations. You will keep the yard, equipment, and mixer trucks clean and functional, assist with loading/unloading and concrete pouring, and serve as a backup CDL driver when needed.

This is a hands-on, all-purpose support role at a ready-mix plant. This full-time position requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to operate skid steers or loaders.

Qualifications

• Experience in ready-mix or industrial plant environment preferred.
• CDL preferred and may serve as backup driver.
• Ability to operate skid steer, loader or similar equipment.
• Reliable, safety-conscious with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Wash and clean concrete mixer trucks after use.
• Clean the truck washdown area and washout pits.
• Keep plant yard, loading area and stockpile areas clean and organized.
• Load and unload aggregate and other materials with equipment.
• Assist with concrete pouring operations and general job site support.
• Perform minor plant equipment maintenance; report larger issues.
• Serve as backup CDL driver for deliveries when needed.
• Perform snow and ice removal during winter months.
• Report equipment issues, material shortages or safety hazards promptly.

Job Summary

The Groundskeeper supports daily operations at the ready-mix plant by keeping the yard, equipment, and mixer trucks clean and functional, assisting with loading/unloading and concrete pouring support, and serving as a backup driver when needed. This is a hands-on, all-purpose support role, not a landscaping-focused position.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash and clean concrete mixer trucks (drum, chute, and exterior) after use, using a pressure washer/hose.
• Clean and maintain the truck washdown area and washout pits according to company procedures.
• Keep the plant yard, loading area, and stockpile areas clean, organized, and free of spilled concrete and debris.
• Load and unload aggregate and other materials using a skid steer, loader, or similar equipment.
• Assist with concrete pouring operations and general job site support as needed.
• Perform minor plant equipment maintenance and basic repairs; report larger issues to the Plant Manager.
• Serve as a backup CDL driver, delivering ready-mix concrete when a regular driver is sick, on a day off, or otherwise unavailable.
• Perform snow and ice removal from plant walkways, yard, and load-out areas during winter months.
• Report equipment issues, material shortages, or safety hazards to plant management promptly.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a ready-mix, concrete, or industrial plant environment preferred.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred — will serve as a backup driver delivering concrete when needed.
• Comfortable operating a skid steer, loader, or similar equipment, or willing to learn.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Willing to assist with a variety of tasks based on daily plant needs.

Physical Work Requirements

• Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
• Climb on/around equipment and mixer trucks as needed.
• Work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
• Use required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, gloves).
• Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.

Schedule, Travel & Work Conditions

• Full-time schedule, Monday–Friday, with weekends as needed.
• Occasional backup-driving duties on short notice when a regular driver is unavailable.
• Primarily on-site at the plant; minimal offsite travel outside of backup delivery runs.
