Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company seeks a dependable driver to transport ready-mix concrete from batch plants to customer sites in Gloucester, VA. You will unload as per specifications, maintain slump, and inspect the mixer truck to ensure safe operation.

Responsibilities include communicating with dispatch, loading under batch plant supervision, and delivering with a focus on safety, accuracy, and customer service. CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred, with potential overtime and outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

  • Experience with ready-mix concrete trucks and tanker CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary

Provide exemplary customer service by safely and efficiently transporting ready‑mix concrete products from batch plants to customer jobsites and unloading according to customer specifications. Maintain proper slump (water content) of ready‑mix concrete. Inspect, service, and clean the concrete mixer truck.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver ready‑mix concrete products.
  • Communicate with dispatcher/plant manager via two‑way radio in truck and direct‑line telephone in yard.
  • Position truck under batch plant to be loaded by batch plant operator/plant manager.
  • Receive written or printed delivery ticket and follow the instructions.
  • Fill truck's water tank and verify accurate slump of load; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Safely drive loaded truck to the delivery destination and inspect jobsite upon arrival.
  • Work with customers to obtain adequate vehicle access and unload material.
  • Rinse chutes and rear of truck to ensure absence of excess concrete.
Vehicle Maintenance
  • Perform pre‑trip/post‑trip vehicle safety inspection; document and report vehicle condition at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Check all vehicle fluid levels daily and add fluids if necessary.
  • Clean outside of vehicle to ensure absence of concrete build‑up throughout each shift.
  • Assist mechanics in vehicle repair and change tires as necessary.

Education
  • High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
Experience
  • Two (2) years of experience driving ready‑mix concrete trucks preferred.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a tanker endorsement.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to products and vehicles.
  • Excellent driving skills and ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations while performing duties.
Other Requirements
  • Complete customer changes to product while on‑site and relay information to plant manager and/or dispatch as appropriate.
  • Maintain daily reports as required by DOT and company regulations.
  • May be required to operate front end loader to feed ready mix plant and move material as needed.
  • Assist in maintenance and upkeep of yard, plant and office.
  • Comply with all safety, health, environmental and other company policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, pull, push, bend and lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Will work outdoors and be exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (heat, wet, cold, etc.).
  • Employee must be able to work required overtime and flexible work schedule.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and have a working knowledge of the English language.
Hourly Range

The hourly range for this role is between $22.79 and $29.12. This range does not include discretionary bonus or equity package. Compensation is determined by skill set, experience, job scope and current market data.
