Job summary

Memphis-Shelby County Schools is hiring for a heavy equipment operator/grounds maintenance role responsible for operating trucks, tractors, and turf equipment across district locations. You will perform related grounds-keeping duties and participate in site maintenance as needed.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED plus one year of related experience and a valid state driver's license. Degree equivalency may apply as described in the district policy.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School diploma or GED and one year of related experience.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Degree Equivalency Formula: Bachelor’s = 4 years + experience; Master’s = 2 years + experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drives light duty pickup, farm tractor, heavy equipment truck/machines, and grass cutting equipment.
  • Repair/replace dumpsters at various locations.
  • Pick up and deliver dirt, sand, mulch, firebark, and sod.
  • Removes tree branches/stumps and debris when required.
  • Cuts swells and ditches for drainage as needed.
  • Perform concrete/asphalt patching, along with filling potholes.
  • Removal of ice/snow when required.
  • Serve as a strike team to cut district locations when requested.
  • Cut SCIAA stadiums, along with tilling and dragging baseball fields when required.
  • Travel to various sites to repair/patch concrete, asphalt, and potholes
  • Attends meetings and workshops as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
