Job summary

Klickitat County Public Works in Goldendale, WA is seeking a Grounds/Facilities Technician to perform cleaning, maintenance and repair tasks across county facilities and equipment. This full-time, non-exempt role offers a union salary set by grade 36 or 38 with steps 1-3, and has a first review date and open until filled.

The position requires operating and maintaining vehicles and a range of tools, plus basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and safety tasks.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements.
• High school diploma, or GED, and any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job; two years of skilled trades and facilities maintenance experience and 2 years of general construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all facilities by operating and maintaining vehicles, trucks, tractors, riding and hand mowers, small equipment such as saws, paint sprayers, pumps, and other specialized equipment and tools.
• Performs general and specialized facilities troubleshooting maintenance and repair, such as ventilation (heating and air conditioning) units/controls, painting, carpentry work, plumbing, electrical, mechanical problems, welding, brazing.
• Assist in setting up and operating fairground events, cleaning and maintaining barns including removal of animal bedding.
• Maintaining County grounds/facilities including lawns, landscaped areas and grounds as assigned by mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, maintaining irrigation system and pest control. Planting of lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs. Removal of debris and repairing fences as necessary.
• Performs routine custodial work such as cleaning floors and restrooms, collecting and disposing refuse and recycling materials, and other duties as required. Performs minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and irrigation system repair work. Replenishes hand towels, toilet tissue, soap and other restroom materials and replaces light bulbs as necessary.
• Prepares, maintains, and installs signs, water and sewage systems and other items as required.
• Performs security and safety duties as needed by inspecting grounds and facilities and taking appropriate action. Seasonal safety duties include but are not limited to the removal of snow and ice from walkways and parking lots.
• Availability to respond to emergency conditions on a call out basis as needed 24 hours a day as determined by the department head.
• Oversees low risk community service workers and inmate trustees in the performance of maintenance and custodial work.
• Responds to telephone calls requesting services if assigned on call duties.
• Maintains daily record of activities.

Performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks for all County facilities and on equipment and operating systems within these areas to maintain them in a safe, clean, operational, and orderly manner. These duties and responsibilities are performed independently with limited supervision.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements. This may, but not necessarily, include specialized skills.

• Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• High school diploma, or GED, and any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job;
• Two years of skilled trades and facilities maintenance experience and 2 years of general construction experience preferred.

Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements

• Valid state driver's license in state of residence
• No prior criminal convictions
• Ability to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Certification
