Walla Walla County is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Fairgrounds, responsible for indoor/outdoor maintenance, custodial duties, gardening and irrigation tasks. The role supports event prep and renter needs, with physical duties including lifting up to 100 pounds and driving required equipment.
The position is full-time during high season with benefits; part-time during low season; non-exempt; starting salary DOE with a stated hourly range of $21.69 to $29.05.

This position encompasses both indoor and outdoor responsibilities focused on maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of grounds and facilities. Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Technician, Senior, performs a variety of routine grounds maintenance work for the Fairgrounds and its properties including building and grounds custodial duties, cleaning, planting, spray, fertilize, prune, irrigate and maintain lawns, plants, trees, shrubs and landscaped areas; and other grounds maintenance projects. Assist with prep work for event shows and renters.
Works in indoor and outdoor environment; required to drive a vehicle to conduct work. Exposure to adverse weather conditions; dust dirt, chemical fumes, cleaning agents and pollen; working around and with machinery having moving parts. Ability to lift up to 100-pound objects; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized grounds equipment and power and hand tools; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; standing for extended periods of time; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; bending at the waist; kneeling or crouching; digging; carrying, pushing and pulling grounds maintenance equipment; perform heavy physical labor.
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year experience maintaining grass, trees, shrubs, and operating related equipment. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in building construction, general maintenance, maintaining grass, trees, shrubs and operating related equipment including at least one (1) year landscape and irrigation.
Valid State driver#39;s license required. Must obtain a fork-lift license and agriculture pesticide applicator license. Other licenses such as CDL, CPR and First Aid preferred.
