Job summary

Sanitary District Of Decatur is seeking a dependable Buildings and Grounds Laborer to perform a range of maintenance tasks at the district facility and grounds. You will mow, trim, seed, fertilize, and maintain landscaping, and operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, and power tools.

The role requires manual labor, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to respond to overtime and emergencies. A high school diploma or GED and driving qualifications are required, with a CDL Class B

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from a standard high school, trade school or obtained a GED.
• Must have considerable experience in varied maintenance and construction work.
• Fully qualified and licensed to operate trucks and mobile equipment on public streets.
• Must have considerable knowledge of common practices, methods and materials of varied maintenance work.
• Must have considerable knowledge of the function, operation and maintenance of the equipment used by the District in the assigned work.

Responsibilities

• Maintains District grounds at the main plant and lift stations by mowing, trimming, brush clearance, seeding, fertilizing, and landscape maintenance.
• Operates and cleans equipment such as chainsaws, trimmers, sprayers, mowers, tractors, and trucks.
• Performs routine maintenance like changing filters, belts, blades, etc.
• Cleans buildings and below ground tanks; power washing and general cleaning.
• Participates in snow removal at plant and lift stations.
• Paints, graffiti removal, and other maintenance activities.
• Undergoes heavy lifting and manual labor for extended periods.
• Maintenance painting, landscaping, road and building repairs.
• Responds to overtime and emergency calls; follows safety procedures.
