Job summary

The Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority is hiring a full-time Buildings and Grounds Worker to perform cleaning, minor repairs, and grounds keeping for SMHA properties. The role requires independence and the ability to manage a variety of tasks to maintain rental units and grounds.

Starting salary is competitive, with a typical 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and a pre-employment drug test.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or 1 year related experience, or completion of a job training program.
• Valid NYS driver's license required at appointment and throughout tenure.

Responsibilities

• Removes trash, recyclables and bulk items from apartments.
• Cleans vacant apartments including appliances, windows, bathroom and kitchen fixtures; washes windows, sills and walls; prepares floors and carpets.
• Maintains neat appearance of general grounds around apartments.
• Performs minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs as directed.
• Operates snow and lawn equipment to maintain site safety and neatness.
• Uses vacuums, stripping machines, waxers and cleaning chemicals to perform tasks.
• Completes work efficiently and meets deadlines.
• Assists with grounds keeping and trash removal when needed.
• Adheres to SMHA Safety Policies.
