Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne is seeking a Grounds Equipment Operator to maintain and enhance park spaces. You will operate mowers, tractors, graders, and sprayers and perform basic maintenance to keep parks safe and inviting for the community.

You should enjoy outdoor work, be able to work in all seasons, and collaborate with team members while serving park visitors. A valid Indiana driver's license is preferred for for-hire use, with overtime opportunities available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience operating grounds or similar equipment.
• At least 1 year of experience in landscaping, turf management, or grounds maintenance.
• Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and handle physically demanding work.
• Valid Indiana Driver's License with for-hire endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, graders, and sprayers on a variety of terrains
• Maintain park grounds including mowing, turf care, tree trimming, litter removal, and field maintenance
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and report repair needs
• Complete work orders, reports, and documentation accurately and on time
• Work collaboratively with team members while providing professional interaction with park visitors
• Assist with directing work crews as assigned
• Support training of new or existing team members

Grounds Equipment Operator Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, overtime as needed

What You'll Do

You'll help maintain and enhance Fort Wayne's parks-keeping spaces clean, safe, and ready for the community to enjoy. From operating equipment to hands-on grounds work, you'll play a key role in how our parks look and function every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, graders, and sprayers on a variety of terrains
• Maintain park grounds including mowing, turf care, tree trimming, litter removal, and field maintenance
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and report repair needs
• Complete work orders, reports, and documentation accurately and on time
• Work collaboratively with team members while providing professional interaction with park visitors

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Assist with directing work crews as assigned
• Support training of new or existing team members

What You Bring – Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 1 year of experience operating grounds or similar equipment

Preferred Certifications

Technical Skills & Knowledge
