SUMMARY Performs

a variety of duties in the development and maintenance of the grounds, drives, walks and parking areas of the district properties. Operates heavy equipment in the performance of job duties.

QUALIFICATIONS To

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs

semi-skilled manual duties requiring a basic understanding and knowledge of groundskeeping techniques, tools, equipment and safety precautions.

Mows grass; trims grass and performs weeding around sidewalks, buildings, and shrubbery; prunes shrubbery, trees and limbs; removes clippings; plants and removes shrubbery; removes debris from sidewalks; uses equipment to load trucks, performs grading work and snow removal.

Uses front loaders, backhoe, dump trucks, and tractors.

Hauls and spreads stone in maintenance of driveways; hauls and spreads bark and/or mulch plants and public areas.

Assists in preparation of athletic field(s) for special events.

Removes trash/rubbish from district locations as scheduled.

Sprays and/or applies fertilizer, pesticides, etc. as directed.

Completes required reports detailing time and materials used.

Follows safety rules in use of equipment.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains grounds maintenance equipment, tools and machinery in proper working condition; reports major repair needs to supervisor.

EDUCATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalency. Three to five years experience in operating lawn maintenance equipment. Must possess a valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Very Heavy Work: Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, or more than 50 pounds of force frequently, or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are more than those for Heavy Work.

Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to helpers or assistants.

Ability to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.

Performing Repetitive or Short-Cycle Work: Involves performing a few routine and uninvolved tasks again according to set procedures, sequence, or pace with little opportunity for diversion or interruption. Interaction with people is included when it is routine, continual, or prescribed.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Exposure to Weather: Exposure to outside consistently changing weather conditions

Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.

Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
