Iowa Tribe of Kansas and NebraskaJob Description: Grounds and Building Maintenance TechnicianDepartment: Grounds and Building MaintenanceReports To: Executive Committee SecretarySchedule Hours: Monday - Friday / 8:00am - 4:30pmEmployment Type: Non-Exempt/Hourly/Full-TimeWage Range: $17.79 - $23.79Position SummaryThe Grounds and Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the Tribe's buildings, grounds, equipment, and public spaces to ensure safe, attractive, and functional facilities for Tribal members, employees, visitors, and community events. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties including landscaping, facility repairs, preventive maintenance, event preparation, custodial support, and emergency response.This position reflects the Tribe's commitment to Stewardship by protecting Tribal assets, maintaining welcoming community spaces, and preserving facilities for future generations.Key ResponsibilitiesFacility MaintenancePerform routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs of Tribal buildings, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.Complete preventative maintenance activities to maximize the life and safety of Tribal assets.Perform general carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, electrical, and other basic building repairs within the scope of the position.Identify maintenance concerns and report repairs requiring specialized contractors or vendors.Grounds MaintenanceMaintain Tribal grounds, landscaped areas, roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, recreational areas, and other outdoor spaces.Perform mowing, trimming, weed control, planting, tree and shrub maintenance, irrigation monitoring, and seasonal landscaping activities.Remove litter and maintain clean, attractive outdoor environments.Custodial and Event SupportPerform periodic deep cleaning of facilities, including floor care, carpet cleaning, and other custodial tasks as assigned.Assist with facility setup and breakdown for meetings, community events, ceremonies, and other Tribal activities.Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.Equipment and InventoryOperate and maintain maintenance equipment, vehicles, tools, and machinery safely and effectively.Monitor maintenance supply inventories and assist with ordering materials and equipment.Maintain organized storage areas and properly store equipment and hazardous materials.Safety and ComplianceFollow all Tribal safety policies, applicable regulations, and safe work practices.Maintain clean, safe work areas and promptly report hazardous conditions.Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.General ResponsibilitiesRespond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.Assist departments during emergencies, weather events, and community activities.Work independently while effectively prioritizing assignments.Perform other related duties as assigned to support Tribal operationsQualificationsRequired Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GEDOne (1) year of experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, construction, landscaping, custodial services, or a related field is preferred.LicensesValid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.PreferredAssociates Degree in relevant skilled tradeRequired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledgeSkillsAbilitiesWorkplace safety proceduresProblem solving and troubleshootingIndependent work with minimal supervisionGeneral building maintenance principlesTime management organizationPrioritize multiple tasks/projectsBasic plumbing carpentry painting and electrical repair techniquesCustomer service & cleanlinessRead and follow work orders, instructions and safety proceduresSafe operation of maintenance equipment and toolsCommunicating effectively with vendors, visitors, employees, and tribal membersAdapt to changing operational needsPreventative maintenanceMaintain confidentialityElectrical safetyRepresent the tribe in a respectful and professional mannerSoftware & ToolsComputer documentationMay use work order tracking applications or softwareWork EnvironmentWork is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, noise, dust, maintenance equipment, chemicals, and construction materials.Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or emergency response work may be required to support Tribal operations.Physical RequirementsThe employee regularly performs physically demanding work requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment.The position frequently requires lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance.
