The Davey Tree Expert Company in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Tree Care Groundperson to join our outdoor-focused team. The role offers a $22-$24/hr pay range and on-site work at client sites, with opportunities to learn from experienced climbers and foremen.

You will assist with pruning, removal, cable installations, and safety-driven operation of tools and equipment. A love of the outdoors and the ability to lift 50 pounds are required, with certifications and training available.

Qualifications

• Must love the outdoors and be able to perform physically demanding work.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Orientation and safety training on hire.
• Preferred: ISA/TCIA certifications and related licenses where required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Assist climbers, foremen, and crew members.
• Perform tree pruning and removal safely and skillfully; prune, thin, remove deadwood; install cables and bracing as needed.
• Maintain, prepare and operate tools and equipment (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Contribute to the greenspace stewardship team and client service excellence.

We are currently looking to add a dynamic Tree Care Ground person to our passionate team of tree care professionals. Your office is outdoors, and you get a new view every day!

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• You will assist the climbers, foreman, and other crew members.
• Performing all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients Including but not limited to:
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightening protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Be part of the most progressive greenspace stewardship team in the industry!

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
• Preferred: ISA Certified Arborist ®, ISA Certified Tree Worker ®, and/or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional ®
