Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction and maintenance of underground distribution systems with safety first.
  • Install and repair underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Maintain excavation equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and pulling equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions and be available for outages and emergencies.
  • Follow PPE protocols and inspect PPE and insulated protective gear.
  • Communicate using hand signals when needed and perform physical labor.

Job description

Position Summary

The Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems. You will report to the Foreman.

Essential Functions
  • Perform new construction, maintain and repair underground distribution systems while putting safety first.
  • Help install and repair underground facilities, underground conductors, and related hardware.
  • Maintain excavation equipment to include backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies including on call rotation.
  • Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
  • Inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Understanding of when to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Will perform rigorous physical labor.
Minimum Requirements

  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at constructions job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
