Job summary

Cayuga Health in Ithaca, NY is seeking an experienced pathology support professional to perform gross examination and preparation of surgical pathology specimens and to support lab operations.

Eligibility requires an Associate degree in a related science and an NYS license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histotechnician. The role is onsite at Cayuga Medical Center with evening shifts and a pay range of $28.35–$39.38 per hour plus benefits.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and preparation of routine surgical pathology specimens, including specimen description, orientation, sectioning, tissue selection, and processing for histologic evaluation.
• Support pathology laboratory operations by assisting with frozen sections, ancillary testing coordination, specimen accessioning, identification, tracking, and retention of slides, blocks, and specimens.
• Maintain gross room functionality through inventory management, equipment and instrument maintenance, cleaning, and adherence to specimen integrity standards.
• Monitor quality assurance activities by identifying, documenting, and reporting issues affecting testing processes or result reporting, and implementing corrective actions as required.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory, hospital, regulatory, safety, infection prevention, HIPAA, and continuing education requirements while maintaining professional competency and employee health standards.

• Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, providers, and colleagues while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and employee information and consistently uphold professional standards.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, regulatory, and operational policies, including proper handling of hazardous materials and compliance with quality control requirements.
