Cayuga Health's Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY is hiring a laboratory professional to perform gross examination and preparation of routine surgical pathology specimens, and to support pathology operations. The role requires an associates degree in a related science and NYS license (current or eligible).

Onsite evenings at Cayuga Medical Center with a pay range of $28.35–$39.38 per hour and comprehensive benefits.

Responsabilités

• Perform gross examination and preparation of routine surgical pathology specimens, including description and tissue processing.
• Support pathology lab operations by assisting with frozen sections, testing coordination, accessioning, and slide tracking.
• Maintain gross room functionality through inventory, equipment upkeep, and sample integrity.
• Monitor quality assurance by identifying and reporting issues and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with lab, hospital, regulatory, safety, HIPAA, and continuing education requirements while maintaining competency.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and preparation of routine surgical pathology specimens, including specimen description, orientation, sectioning, tissue selection, and processing for histologic evaluation.
• Support pathology laboratory operations by assisting with frozen sections, ancillary testing coordination, specimen accessioning, identification, tracking, and retention of slides, blocks, and specimens.
• Maintain gross room functionality through inventory management, equipment and instrument maintenance, cleaning, and adherence to specimen integrity standards.
• Monitor quality assurance activities by identifying, documenting, and reporting issues affecting testing processes or result reporting, and implementing corrective actions as required.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory, hospital, regulatory, safety, infection prevention, HIPAA, and continuing education requirements while maintaining professional competency and employee health standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Associates degree in a related science Current or eligible NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histotechnician license.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and ability to prioritize workload.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Prior laboratory experience with working knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and pathology laboratory workflows.
• Demonstrated proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and hospital information systems, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, providers, and colleagues while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and employee information and consistently uphold professional standards.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, regulatory, and operational policies, including proper handling of hazardous materials and compliance with quality control requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged standing Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Regular exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and laboratory chemicals.

Standard Rate of $28.35 - $39.38 per hour plus benefits
